to greater heights.
Evolution
of PKS Sat/Sun School
PKSSS
was founded in September 1983 with the help of a few volunteers
Dharma teachers and supporting staff. The first class commenced
with 70 pupils, from Pre-primary to Secondary 1. Due to a shortage
of classrooms, the Dharma Hall which was divided into 4 smaller
classrooms.
The school gradually grew and the enrolment increased to around
200 students, and more became volunteer Dharma
teachers. The school program expanded to include activities
such as community service, camps, outings
and in 1996, a library was set up to cater to youths.
In the same year, the school adopted a new operating system. To
cater for expansion, new Dharma
teachers and supporting staff were recruited to run the school.
Currently there are about 800 students. Classes, now in the Pagoda
of 10,000 Buddhas on Saturdays and Sundays, have students academically
ranging from Primary 1 to Secondary 4.
