It is believed that a recently departed spirit will undergo rebirth within 49 days. Ji Ling (寄灵) is a Chinese Mahayana practice that reflects this Buddhist understanding and incorporates Chinese cultural customs. During this transitional period, family members can support the spirit and express their filial piety through prayers and offerings.

At KMSPKS, the tablet of the dearly departed is respectfully placed at the Ji Ling Hall
for a period of 21, 49 or 100 days, depending on the individual’s needs. 
Every day during this period, incense and food offerings are made to each tablet.
