Beginning the Buddhist Path

Take your first step in understanding Buddhism.

This introductory programme offers a clear and simple overview of the most basic teachings and ideas of Buddhism. It is designed for those with little or no prior knowledge, and provides a gentle foundation for further learning and practice.

  4. Exploring the teachings of the Buddha
  5. Becoming a Buddhist
  6. Using the Ten Wholesome Actions as a practical ethical guide
  7. Living the Buddhist Observances
  8. Understanding the Buddhist vow

Instructor:

Venerable Aparekke Sirisumana Thero was ordained as a Sri Lankan Buddhist monk in 1998 and received his higher ordination in 2007. He holds a B.A. in Buddhist Philosophy from the University of Ruhuna (UOR) Sri Lanka and a second B.A. degree in Buddhist Studies from the Buddhist College of Singapore (BCS). He has also completed his M.A. in Buddhist Studies from the Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University (MCU).

Ven. Aparekke Sirisumana Thero is also concurrently teaching “Early Buddhism – Basic Doctrines” to Diploma students and “Buddhism and Modern issues” to Master students in Mangala Vihara.

Note:

  • All lessons will be conducted in English.
  • The lessons will be conducted at the monastery. However, remote e-learning via pre-recorded lectures may be implemented when deemed necessary.
  • Upon successful registration, all classes are strictly non-refundable and non-transferable.
  • Dinner and transportation services will not be provided.
  • Students are reminded to bring their own water, as bottled water will not be provided.
  • To maintain the sanctity of the monastery, we request all students to dress modestly, with attire that covers their shoulders and knees.
